A semi-transparent mirror mounted at the front of the instrument
reflects light and allows light to pass through it so you
can see the image of the photograph and the map superimposed
upon its surfaces. The photo image is reflected into an vertical
position by the large opaque mirror. The viewing lens reduces
the size of the copy in accordance with the characteristics
of the given diopter lens used, also bringing it into focus.
The three legs are adjustable to correct for tilt and differences
in scale. The instrument operates best with a good light source
,either daylight or artificial lighting. Diopter lenses are
not included. In the standard operation position, when the
ratio of the map scale to the photo scale is 1:1 no lens is
required. For other ratios, the proper lens is inserted in
a clamp directly below the mirror.
